When John Garofalo opened the Harvey Cedars Shellfish Co. in 1972 near the Harvey Cedars Marina, he didn’t have any idea that 40 years later he and his brother would still be serving some of the best seafood on Long Beach Island. The restaurant moved to it’s current location in 1973. A year later John asked his brother, Mike, fresh out of high school, to join the business. They incorporated in 1976. The Shellfish Co. is known as a local institution specializing in the freshest seafood, much of it from our local docks in Barnegat Light. Situated in the heart of beautiful Harvey Cedars, the restaurant has been recognized as one of the island’s premier dining destinations by numerous publications, including the prestigious Zagat Survey. Based in a circa 1920 beach house, the casual, laid-back environment is fitting for the restaurant’s unique take on Jersey Shore fare.
